Religious School Teachers

Congregation Rodeph Shalom seeks teachers for our religious school (Berkman Mercaz Limud).  We are seeking teachers for the following grades/areas:

• Kindergarten
• 2nd Grade (curriculum focus is Torah)
• 3rd  Grade (curriculum focus is T’filah and Life-cycle)
• 4th Grade (curriculum focus is Israel)
• 5th Grade (curriculum focus is Jewish History)
• 6th Grade (curriculum focus is American Jewish History)
• Permanent substitutes (work every Sunday to assist where teacher absences create need)

Berkman Mercaz Limud emphasizes Jewish content and connection:  creating and fostering friendships is an important part of our mission, as is exposing learners to a depth and breadth of Jewish tradition that they can use to create meaning in their lives at every age.  The arts – visual, performing, literary – are integral to our approach to every subject.  Weekly Torah study and t’filah specially geared for each age and stage are part of every session.  We meet on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., from September 8, 2024 through May 18, 2025 (with a few Sundays off for holidays/school vacations).

Successful applicants will have:

• Some experience teaching in a Jewish religious school (which could include experience as a madrich/madricha/ assistant teacher during high school)
• Passion for working with children and for inspiring Jewish connections and knowledge
• Understanding of, and commitment to, Reform Judaism
• Commitment to a year of 30 Sundays, 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, plus lesson-planning and parent updates during the week
• Interest in professional learning to grow as a Jewish educator, and ability to devote 10-15 paid hours/year to professional learning
• Interest in collaboration with fellow educators
