About the Organization

Shalom Orlando is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that enhances the quality of Jewish life in the greater Orlando area and around the world through philanthropy, education, social services, culture, spirituality and total wellness. Shalom Orlando is comprised of The Roth Family JCC and the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando, serving as the center of Jewish life in Central Florida.

Job Summary

The Director of Development is responsible for creating, leading, and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support the organization's mission and programs. This role is crucial in securing financial resources to sustain and grow Shalom Orlando's impact in the Central Florida Jewish community and beyond. The Director of Development will oversee all aspects of fundraising, including major gifts, annual campaigns, planned giving, grants, and special events. This position requires a passion for the Jewish mission of Shalom Orlando, strong leadership skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, board members, and community partners. The Director of Development supervises and collaborates closely with the Director of Special Events and the Development Assistant to ensure a cohesive and effective fundraising strategy.  This position also collaborates with all departments within Shalom Orlando to identify strategies for additional fundraising opportunities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies encompassing donor cultivation, major gifts, grants, a planned giving program, designated giving, donor recognition programs, and community outreach.
  • Establish clear goals and performance metrics for the development team, and monitor key performance indicators.
  • Provide professional leadership to the Development Committee and work closely with the Board of Directors to engage them in development efforts.
  • Foster a culture of collaborative teamwork within the organization, provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Manage development operations, including coordination with the finance team on gift processing, acknowledgments, collections, donor communications, and revenue tracking.
  • Oversee Corporate Relations to secure sponsorships and collaborate with all departments to maximize funding opportunities.
  • Collaborate with and support the Executive Director in all development activities and operations, including oversight of $1,000+ donor relationships.
  • Engage in long-term planning for capital and endowment development to ensure growth and sustainability.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in fundraising or a related field.
  • Experience with JCC and Federation programming/development preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Proven success in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to develop strong relationships with stakeholders and the community.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to multitask. 
  • Proficient in business technology, fundraising databases, budgeting, and data analysis.
  • Passion for the Jewish community and familiarity with Jewish lifecycle and calendar.

Certifications and Physical Requirements

  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) certification preferred.
