Position Overview:
The Communications Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing Clal’s mission by managing all aspects of communications. This position requires a creative and detail-oriented individual who can seamlessly manage internal and external communications, while elevating Clal’s visibility. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled communicator, an exceptional copy editor, and a strong project manager who will see projects through from start to finish. This position is a 20-hour-a-week, part-time position.
Responsibilities:
- Email Newsletter: Write, design, and distribute a weekly email newsletter in coordination with faculty writers. Collaborate with faculty to highlight their work, events, and relevant content. Create new targeted email newsletters as needed.
- Editor, The Wisdom Daily: Serve as the Editor for The Wisdom Daily, Clal’s online platform for articles and thought pieces on religion, spirituality, and contemporary life. Work closely with writers to review and edit content and with the Senior Director of Innovation to source articles. Track articles through the editing process and post them when completed. Strategically manage the publication calendar, ensuring at least once-weekly articles.
- Communications Project Management: Coordinate the creation and distribution of various communication materials, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
- Design of Promotional Materials: Create basic designs for flyers, handouts, and digital marketing materials to support Clal events and initiatives. Coordinate with graphic designers for larger or more involved projects.
- Writing and Editing: Review and edit public-facing materials written by staff or faculty to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with Clal’s mission. Write pieces for publication on our website, social media platforms, and email newsletters based on faculty work and ideas. Ensure all communications are copy-edited to the highest standards. Ensure consistency in tone and message across platforms.
- Website Management: Coordinate regular updates to Clal’s website and troubleshoot technical issues with our web developer, ensuring all content is current and accurately reflects our programs and values.
- Quarterly Mailing: Coordinate and sometimes write quarterly holiday mailings with faculty members to engage donors and alumni. Interface with print house and database to deliver on-time mailings.
- Grant Writing and Reporting: Write compelling grant applications and track / report on grant deliverables. Write detailed grant reports in accordance with funding requirements and deadlines.
- Impact Report Creation: Project manage and collaborate to write impact reports for selected programs, combining research done by others with writing up themes and impact, as well as coordinating with graphic designer.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience: Minimum 2-5 years of experience in communications or a related field, ideally within the nonprofit sector
- Skills:
- Exceptional writing, editing, copy-editing, and communication abilities
- Proficiency with web content management systems (e.g. WordPress), email marketing platforms (e.g. Mailchimp), social media, and databases (e.g. Bloomerang or related)
- Familiarity with basic graphic design tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, or Beautiful.ai) for creating simple marketing materials
- Strong project management skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Experience with grant writing and reporting
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with faculty and stakeholders
- Knowledge of Jewish traditions, values, and culture

- Salary: $30K - $40K USD, commensurate with experience
