Seeking Educators for Beth Am’s Jewish Discovery Lab

The Position: We are currently seeking passionate, creative, and enthusiastic educators to lead our Kindergarten-7th  grade classrooms. This 5 hr/week position would help design and facilitate a class for a Lab class of 10-15 students working with them on Hebrew reading, tefilah, and engage in our core curriculum, using art, movement, and other modalities to explore an array of Jewish topics. The educator would collaborate with the Director of Youth and Family Education to adapt the curriculum for this group of learners in a COVID-safe environment.

About Beth Am’s Jewish Discovery Lab: Beth Am is a Conservative Synagogue located in the Reservoir Hill Neighborhood of Baltimore. We are committed to seeking Jewish responses to life’s biggest questions, fostering a sacred community in Reservoir Hill, and pursuing Justice in Baltimore and beyond.

Beth Am’s supplementary Jewish education program, the Jewish Discovery Lab, is an interactive, individualized approach to Jewish Learning for Kindergarten to high school students.  Our open classroom model allows students to help set their personal learning goals, and our project-based units encourage collaborative and hands-on learning. Lab focuses on orienting students in core areas of Jewish text and practice and helps them apply this wisdom to their full lives.

The 2nd-7th grades classes meets at Beth Am Synagogue on Sundays from 9:30 a.m.-12:30pm, and Wednesdays from 4:15 pm-6:15 pm. Educators who can only commit to teaching on one of these days are encouraged to apply.  Teachers will also be responsible for attending a one hour monthly staff meeting, and occasionally communication with parents. Applicants who are available on one of the days only would also be welcome to apply.

A successful candidate will have experience working with young learners, and will be passionate about hands-on experiential learning and Jewish education. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with education experience approximately $32-$38 an hour. Paid orientation and staff meetings on a monthly basis.

To Apply: Please submit a resume outlining your relevant experience to Rabbi Tyler Dratch, Associate Rabbi, at [email protected]. Also, include a paragraph about your interest in this position in the body of the email.
