Private Elementary School 

Teaching Position

 

The Gordon School, a private co-educational Jewish Day School, is located in the beautiful Roads Neighborhood (next to Brickell area) of Miami.  We are accredited by the Association of Independent Schools of Florida, COGNIA,  and the National Council for Private School Education.

 

We are looking for Elementary School teachers (grades 3, 4, and 5) for the coming 2025-2026 school year. Our school is experiencing unprecedented growth and needs a few new teachers. These positions would be responsible for teaching all four core subject areas (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies). Our school is an inclusive, warm and welcoming environment which has a strong academic foundation.  We are focused on helping each of our students to be successful not only in academic areas but also in character development. We are proud of the differentiated learning approach that we focus on for each and every student. Our small class sizes are an important part of who we are. Our specialist instructors include:  Art, Music, Physical Education, Spanish, Hebrew, and Judaics. 

 

The Teacher is responsible for creating and implementing lesson plans that meet the needs of all students, overseeing the classroom throughout the day, and ensuring high student performance. The Teacher plays a vital role in facilitating a productive learning environment and nurturing the academic and social/emotional growth of students throughout the school year.

  • Essential Job Functions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in elementary education.
  • Holds or eligible for a Florida Department of Education certificate in elementary education K-6.
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience.
  • Clearly communicates in English including reading, writing and verbal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • ESE K-12 Certification or inclusion classroom teaching experience a plus

 

Functions

  • Foster a creative, supportive, and nurturing learning environment for elementary age students. Prepare students academically and socially/emotionally.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, other staff, and  all members of the Gordon School and Center for Jewish Life at Beth David. 
  • Thorough understanding of how current best practice learning and teaching styles affect education. Strong creative thinking and crisis management skills.
  • Comfortable working with, or learning, common technologies, such as video conferencing, smart devices, online materials, and learning management platforms.
  • Support the philosophy and vision of the Gordon School and Center for Jewish Life at Beth David.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver creative lesson plans that are B.E.S.T. standard aligned which facilitate active learning through diverse resources including technology and multimedia items fostering strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Provide individual and group instruction to meet individual student needs.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Manage student behavior  and discipline through effective and consistent positive classroom management systems and techniques.
  • Advance positive interpersonal relationships with coworkers, students, and parents.
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work to students and families in a timely manner.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Participate in school and parent meetings.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
  • Meet with parents and keep them up to date with their children’s progress.
  • Keep regular records, including school papers, grades, special projects, and report cards.
  • Ensure students meet or exceed grade level standards.
  • Participate in regular training and licensing to keep knowledge and credentials up to date.
  • Oversee the administration of standardized assessments. Assist in identifying and referring at-risk students for educational evaluation, remediation and/or for alternative placement.
  • Attend and assist school events.
  • Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and best practice techniques.
  • Be proactive and handle other tasks as assigned.

 

Schedule

This position is a full-time position. The hours of work are from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 am-3:15 pm on Friday, based on a regular school calendar year. This position requires some flexibility to occasionally stay late and arrive early, or work a few weekends for special events during the year.
