Summary

The Director of Admission, Recruitment and Engagement oversees all aspects of the admission and enrollment management process in the recruitment and enrollment of mission-aligned students. The Director will recruit families through personalized and targeted outreach, campus visits, and Admissions events. He/she will work closely with current students and parents to develop strategic and creative outreach and events to highlight the unique aspects of The Schechter School of Long Island (SSLI). The Director is a member of SSLI’s Administrative Leadership Team and reports directly to the Head of School. As a senior leader at SSLI, the Director is expected to be a role model, promote professional practices, and embody the values and mission of SSLI.

Responsibilities

  • Guide prospective families through the admissions process from the time of inquiry to matriculation.
  • Represent the school to prospective students and families, educational consultants, and other constituencies who may directly or indirectly play a role in recruitment/admissions activities.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of key recruitment events for prospective and new students and families, including open houses, parlor meetings, information sessions and other programs. This will include some evenings and weekends, especially during the
    peak season between September through May.
  • Manage recruitment and training of student and parent ambassadors who act as extensions of the Admissions office.
  • Lead and manage on-campus tours for prospective families.
  • Develop and execute a strategic vision for recruitment and enrollment of qualified students.
  • Oversee new student onboarding experience from the time of acceptance until the start of school.
  • Contribute to the mission and standards of the school by recruiting and retaining students who will benefit from the school’s unique culture and program and contribute to the school community.
  • Work with the SSLI’s Director of Marketing and Communications to develop and implement our admission, marketing and communication plan.
  • Oversee and manage the Admissions Database.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with feeder schools and other constituencies relevant to recruitment.
  • Develop and maintain effective communications through hard-copy collateral, the website, newsletters, emails, and social media.
  • Serve as a member of the Admission Review Committee in reading, evaluating, and rendering recommendations for admission.
  • Liaise with the business office on tuition assistance.
  • Track and maintain data regarding admission and recruitment, and alter strategies and approaches in response to new information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred or commensurate experience.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience and demonstrated success in leading or working at the top levels of the admission process, preferably in an independent day school.
  • An appreciation for the mission and core values of the SSLI.
  • Strong background in education preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong leadership/management, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of marketing and public relations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Good listening skills and sensitivity to the unique needs and concerns of prospective families.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google and CRMs is required.
  • Experience working with school leadership and administration and lay leadership.

Salary range: $90k - $100k
