Position Overview

DKJA is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable 8th Grade Judaic Studies Teacher for the 2025-26 school year. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of Tanakh, as well as content expertise in Jewish History, Holocaust studies, and Israel education to prepare students for their 8th-grade capstone trip to Israel. This educator will inspire students to engage meaningfully with Jewish texts, history, and values while fostering a strong connection to the Land and State of Israel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Judaic Studies courses with a focus on Tanakh, Jewish History, Holocaust studies, and Israel education.
  • Fluently navigate Tanakh text and guide students in developing their skills to independently read, analyze, and understand Tanakh using textual evidence.
  • Teach students how to glean understandings and lessons from Tanakh through traditional and modern commentaries and apply them to contemporary life.
  • Develop and implement engaging, inquiry-based lessons that encourage critical thinking and personal connection to Jewish texts and history.
  • Integrate contemporary relevance into Judaic Studies, helping students connect ancient texts and historical events to modern-day Jewish life.
  • Prepare students for the 8th-grade capstone trip to Israel, incorporating historical, religious, and cultural aspects into the curriculum.
  • Foster a love for Torah learning and Jewish identity through interactive and discussion-based learning.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to create interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Assess and monitor student progress using a variety of assessment tools.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty regarding student learning and development.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance content knowledge and pedagogical skills.
  • Lead a tefilla (prayer) group with students.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Jewish Education, Judaic Studies, or a related field.
  • Background in teaching Tanakh.
  • Fluency in navigating Tanakh text and the ability to teach students how to read, analyze, and derive meaning from it.
  • Knowledge of Holocaust studies and Israel education with the ability to prepare students for their capstone trip to Israel.
  • Experience teaching middle school students in a Jewish day school or similar setting preferred.
  • Fluency in Hebrew is a plus but not required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for Jewish education and inspiring students in their Jewish identity and learning.
