Temple Menorah is a traditional Zionist congregation with 400 family members in Miami Beach, FL. After a 38-year tenure, our Rabbi will retire, and we are seeking a spiritual leader to guide us into the future. Our ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to Jewish values, traditions and the ability to inspire and connect with congregants of multiple backgrounds. Our unique congregation serves a variety of Jewish cultures, both Ashkenazi and Sephardi, long term senior members as well as young families and singles with different religious, educational and spiritual needs. Adaptability is an essential quality for any applicant wanting to serve our diverse membership and be an active liaison to our vibrant South Florida community. Key Responsibilities
Bimah, Pastoral and lifecycle duties:
- Officiate and be able to lead, when necessary, all daily religious services, including Shabbat and holidays
- Officiate and provide counseling and support to members during lifecycle events including birth, brit milah, b’nai mitzvah, wedding, illness, death and bereavement
- Deliver Torah-based sermons that are inspirational and relevant
- Read Torah, Haftorah and Megillot as needed
Education:
- Develop and teach weekly religious school lessons
- Prepare students (including adults) for b’nai mitzvah
- Mentor, counsel and prepare conversion candidates
- Provide educational programs to engage our members including teaching Torah, Hebrew, Jewish history, and values
- Promote and support Zionist values and initiatives fostering a connection between the congregation and the State of Israel
- Provide leadership and guidance in all matters pertaining to halacha
Synagogue outreach and membership development:
- Grow membership by creating an inviting atmosphere for new families and members of all ages
- Fundraise to support our continued maintenance and growth
Community building:
- Encourage a strong sense of community within the congregation
- Develop innovative ideas for community events that engage members and strengthen bonds
- Serve as ambassador in the community at large
- Foster relationships with local religious and civic organizations such as Greater Miami Jewish Federation, Jewish National Fund, State of Israel Bonds, etc.
Administrative duties:
- Be accessible to members for religious questions and concerns
- Maintain productive relationships with the staff
- Work with the synagogue Board of Directors and committees to develop and implement policies, programs, and budgets
- Mediate and resolve conflicts with the congregation in a fair and compassionate manner
Qualifications:
- Rabbinical ordination from an accredited program or seminary
- Lead by example in living a traditional mitzvah observant lifestyle
- Deep understanding of Jewish history, laws, rabbinic texts, traditions, and customs
- High personal, ethical, and professional standards
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate, empathetic, patient, and approachable
- Committed to personal and professional growth
- Congregational experience is a plus, but recent graduates with relevant skills will be considered
