Description

The Senior Director of Leadership Engagement works closely with the VP of Philanthropy and Engagement, the Chief External Affairs Officer, and the Chief of Staff. Their main responsibilities include developing and implementing strategic engagement models for leadership-level volunteers and donors. The Senior Director focuses on building relationships with Hillel International program professionals and engaging small groups of stakeholders with similar interests. They also provide strategic direction to increase board member and donor involvement in Hillel's initiatives, leveraging their expertise to advance the organization's mission and vision. Additionally, the Senior Director is vital in cultivating relationships with donors and lay leaders to advance donor engagement across the organization. The candidate should reside in the New York area.

What You’ll Do

  • Serves as a strong leader, ambassador, and resource for all Hillel International Board of Directors, Board of Governors and individual donors interested in volunteer engagement within Hillel International. 
  • Build personal relationships with Hillel International board members, lay leaders and donors that advance their understanding of and commitment to Hillel International's work. 
  • Identify areas of interest or expertise of volunteer leaders and donors and facilitate their engagement with Hillel International programmatic teams, examples include advisory bodies, task forces and one-to-one relationship building. 
  • Serve as a point of first connect for board and leadership donors interested in learning more about select areas of Hillel's work and be responsible for driving communication to affinity groups. 
  • Create a robust communication plan for Hillel international leadership bodies, including the Board of Directors and Governors.  
  • Develop a roster of key board member relationships to inform and drive Hillel International fundraising and partnership efforts, collaborating with Hillels Chief of Staff and VP of Philanthropy to keep up to date on other volunteer roles, and connections to campus Hillels and universities.
  • Foster interactions among lay leaders at Hillel conferences and key Jewish community gatherings where Hillel lay leaders have a strong presence.
  • Play an integral role in the Philanthropy and Engagement team.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 10+ years of experience in related roles, with direct experience working with individual donors giving five and six-figure gifts annually
  • Based in New York City 
  • Models effective networking with community members 
  • Ability to create and execute strategies, consistently producing high-quality work that excites audiences and generates conversation.
  • Understands Hillel’s overarching mission and the role of Board members
  • Strong interpersonal skills, deep knowledge of the sector and the ability to communicate clearly and articulately with lay leaders and stakeholders
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a high level of adaptability and resilience

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this New York-based role is $115,000-130,000 annually.
