Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School invites candidates to apply for the position of Manager of Auxiliary Services. Founded in 1965, CESJDS is a premier JK-12 Jewish day school with an international reputation for academic excellence and a vibrant pluralistic community guided by Jewish values. The School has 850 students over two campuses, located in Rockville, MD.

 

The Manager of Auxiliary Services will plan, direct, and coordinate all non-tuition revenue-generating auxiliary programs within the School, including daily and field trip bus transportation, after-school clubs, and building rentals. This is a strategic and innovative position focused on creating and sustaining a positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture with an emphasis on operational excellence. This is a unique opportunity to shape the expansion and future of auxiliary programs to advance the mission of CESJDS and generate additional revenue for the School.

The position reports to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer. This is a full-time exempt management position. Hours for this position will generally be 7:30am to 4:00pm with flexibility required. Please submit your resume along with your cover letter and describe why you are a great fit for this role.

 

Responsibilities include:

Auxiliary Services

  • Take an entrepreneurial approach to design, enhance, and expand new auxiliary offerings that align with the School’s mission and take better advance of our facilities.
  • Generate auxiliary net revenue through efficiencies and new program development.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of renting the School’s facilities to interested parties.
  • Primary point of contact for logistics including questions, room-setup, tours, and tracking payments for parties interested in renting CESJDS facilities.
  • Work in conjunction with Facilities, IT, Security, the Business Office, and CFOO to record approved requests and to generate a contract for parties interested in renting CESJDS facilities.
  • Work in conjunction with Facilities and Security to ensure that the reservation system is up to date with correct information.
  • Ensure effective communication with the division heads regarding auxiliary programs impacting their divisions.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CFOO.

 

Transportation

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the school's student transportation system, ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students.
    • The transportation system encompasses daily arrival/dismissal of buses, shuttles between campuses, academic events, including field trips.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels between the families, school administration and bus companies to address concerns, provide updates, and gather feedback.
  • Participate in recruitment initiatives, providing information on transportation services to prospective families.
  • Collaborate with the Admission team to align transportation services with enrollment needs.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with transportation service providers to ensure reliable and high-quality services.
  • Develop and implement efficient bus routes and schedules that prioritize student safety and adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Regularly review and optimize routes to accommodate changes in enrollment, address traffic patterns, and enhance overall efficiency.
  • Reviews and investigates student or bus operator issues and recommends or initiates appropriate action.
  • Work closely with the educational administrative team to coordinate efficient and organized arrival and dismissal procedures.
  • Implement systems to account for student whereabouts during the dismissal process and enhance overall safety.
  • Manage and update software applications related to transportation, including BusWhere and transportation-related fields in PowerSchool and SchoolPass.
  • Stay informed about local, state, and federal regulations governing school transportation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, licensing requirements, and other relevant regulations.
  • Oversee all aspects of clearing, testing, and training of CESJDS employees selected to drive school-owned vehicles.
  • Assist in the development and management of the transportation budget.
  • Request quotes, negotiate contracts, monitor performance, and address any issues or concerns promptly with transportation companies.
  • Communicate regularly with faculty, students, and parents in person (both one-on-one and large groups), via phone and through email and social media.
  • Serves as a member of the Emergency Management Team.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CFOO.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • 3 years of prior experience, especially in a school setting, or formal training in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and effectively in a changing, fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of innovative programming
  • Exceptional communicator
  • Ability to create and maintain budgets and reports
  • Excellent analytical and diagnostic skills with a proactive approach to problem solving required.
  • Ability to effectively respond to complex inquiries and/or complaints.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel a must.
  • Highly motivated and organized.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with others and have a problem-solving mindset.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

 

 

Working Conditions

Work is performed inside and outside the building with exposure to inclement weather and unpredictable crisis situations.
