Summary:  At Temple Beth Shalom, we’re looking for an innovative and passionate Education Director to lead our Fran and Howard Muser Religious School and Philip J. Solondz Preschool.  As Education Director, you'll have the opportunity to shape and grow our education programs, working with our Rabbi, Board of Education, and staff to engage students and families in meaningful Jewish learning experiences.

What You’ll Do:

Educational Leadership:

  • Create a vision for the future of the Religious School and Preschool by redesigning the curriculum to boost student engagement, focusing on improving Hebrew reading and skills.
  • Work closely with our Rabbi and Board to implement the new program and ensure it reflects the values and vision of our Temple.
  • Lead the planning and development of curricula, in consultation with the Rabbi and faculty.
  • Support teachers with training, feedback, and resources to ensure they have what they need to succeed.
  • Supervise teachers and staff, guiding them to provide the best educational experience for students.
  • Organize co-curricular activities, such as field trips and special Jewish programming, ensuring that they align with our educational goals.
  • Engage families through parent-teacher conferences and other events, and work to increase Religious School and Preschool enrollment.

Collaboration and Community Engagement:

  • Be a key part of Temple life—working with families, clergy, and the community to build relationships and enrich Jewish education.
  • Participate in community events, both within the congregation and the broader Livingston area, to strengthen Temple connections and support our mission.
  • Lead and support family education programs and work with committees to engage Preschool and Religious School families in Temple activities.

Budget and Operations:

  • Oversee the school’s budget and ensure that we’re on track financially.
  • Approve purchases and expenditures, and work closely with the Executive Director and Treasurer to maintain fiscal responsibility.
  • Recommend improvements to school facilities to create an enriching learning environment for students.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2-5 years of teaching experience in Jewish education, including experience teaching Hebrew, Jewish holidays, and prayer.
  • Supervisory experience is a plus.
  • A degree in Jewish education or related field is highly desirable, though not required.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with teachers, students, and parents.
  • Strong leadership skills with excellent communication abilities—both written and verbal.
  • A passion for creating a positive and engaging Jewish learning environment for all ages.

Salary Range:

  • Starting at $105,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
