Job Title: Membership and Development Manager
Supervisor: Executive Director
Start Date: Flexible, but early availability is strongly preferred. No later than April 1.

 Job Description:

Beth Meyer Synagogue, a Jewish house of prayer and learning community, invites applications for full-time work as our Membership and Development Manager. An indispensable partner to the Executive Director and Rabbis, the Membership and Development Manager co-directs the cultivation of financial resources to operate Beth Meyer Synagogue and support growth. This job is new, and we welcome applicants’ creative vision for it.

 Job Responsibilities:

  • Member Recruitment and Retention. Mobilize co-workers and Trustees to manage relationships with community stakeholders and initiate membership; process membership applications.
  • Campaign operations. Support the Executive Director and Rabbis to manage Open the Gates, the annual fundraising campaign for Beth Meyer Synagogue, and achieve fundraising goals.
  • Database management. Manage member and donor records in ShulCloud, a synagogue-specific CRM. Direct records entry to protect data health and creatively support engagement and campaign operations.
  • Accounts Receivable. Set up payment plans for membership dues, donations, and fees, and track collection. Collaborate with the Executive Director to bill for and obtain outstanding revenues.
  • Gift Acknowledgement and Reporting. Receipt and acknowledge donations revenue; issue notice of memorial and honorarium gifts, handle plaque orders, and prepare donor communications.
  • Grants Management. Direct grants research and submissions to cultivate the financial resources necessary for expansionary activities (e.g., capital replacement, talent recruitment).

Qualifications:

  1. 2-4 years of relevant work experience are required.
  2. Basic knowledge of Judaism and experience with fundraising or sales are pluses.
  3. Beth Meyer Synagogue prioritizes demonstration of these work behaviors:

  • Timely execution of tasks and projects with minimal supervision.

  • Willingness to accept extra duties to support synagogue operations.

Compensation and Benefits:

  1. The base salary range for the Membership and Development Manager job is $54,000 - $58,000.
  2. The Membership and Development Manager works 32 hours per week and co-determines with the Executive Director their work schedule. Enjoy a four-day workweek if you want!
  3. The Membership and Development Manager is eligible to enroll in group medical and dental insurance plans after thirty days of employment. Beth Meyer Synagogue will pay 75% of the Membership and Development Manager’s premiums and 50% of premiums for qualified dependents.
  4. Employees working at least 30 hours per week can participate in a retirement plan. Beth Meyer Synagogue will contribute a dollar-for-dollar match up to 2% of the Membership and Development Manager’s salary one year after the employee’s start date.
  5. The base vacation leave award for the Membership and Development Manager is two weeks. The Membership and Development Manager earns pay on office holidays. Leave is also allowed for several other reasons (e.g., caring for a loved one, mourning) as described in Beth Meyer Synagogue’s employee handbook.
  6. Reduced Beth Meyer Preschool tuition is available for this job.
  7. Funds for training and development are available for the Membership and Development Manager and are disbursable at the Executive Director’s discretion.
