Location: Adath Israel in Hillside/Elizabeth NJ

About Us

Adath Israel is a warm and welcoming synagogue dedicated to fostering Jewish education, community engagement, and meaningful religious experiences for all ages. We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Youth Director to strengthen and expand our youth programming, with a particular focus on enhancing Shabbos morning groups and engaging children and teens in meaningful Jewish experiences.

Responsibilities

Shabbos & Yom Tov Programming

  • Build and develop a thriving Shabbos morning youth program, ensuring engaging and age-appropriate tefillah, learning, and activities for children of all ages.
  • Oversee Tot Shabbat, creating a warm and interactive Shabbat experience for young children and their families.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise group leaders, ensuring they create a welcoming and structured environment.
  • Organize and implement special youth events for Yom Tovim (e.g., Purim celebrations, pre-Pesach programming, Simchas Torah activities).

Youth & Teen Engagement

  • Plan and oversee non-Shabbat monthly activities for various age groups, such as trips, educational experiences, and social events.
  • Collaborate with Rabbi Rosenbaum and Rabbi Steinmetz to develop programming for middle school and high school students, fostering stronger connections and engagement with the shul.

Leadership & Community Building

  • Foster positive relationships with children, teens, and their families, creating an inclusive and supportive youth culture within the shul.
  • Manage the youth program budget responsibly, ensuring financial sustainability and efficiency.
  • Publicize youth programs through shul communications, flyers, and social media, ensuring high visibility and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Youth Committee, providing updates, gathering feedback, and aligning programming with community needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience in youth programming, education, or a related field.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to connect with and inspire children and teens of various ages.
  • Energetic, creative, and passionate about building Jewish youth engagement.
  • Willingness to work on Shabbat, Yom Tov, and occasional evenings as needed.
