Join the Lessans Camp JCC team for the summer! The Assistant Aquatics Director is responsible for working with the Aquatics Director to oversee the Swim Staff and swim program at Lessans Camp JCC, within the guidelines set by the Bender JCC of Greater Washington.

 

Core Responsibilities include:

  • Attend pre-camp meetings, including Leadership Team and other scheduled meetings.
  • Prepare and implement orientation week training for Swim Staff with the Aquatics Director.
  • Mentor Swim Staff in creating fulfilling swim lessons by modeling and providing ideas, suggestions, and materials.
  • Meet with nurses and Inclusion Director to obtain information regarding the specific needs of each camper.
  • Teach Swim Staff how to use source/platform and ensure all reports are being completed fully and appropriately.
  • Ensure Leadership Team members and all counselors, including Shomrim (watchers), are diligently monitoring safety of campers while in the water.
  • Identify and report any hazardous and unsafe conditions at the pool.
  • Effectively communicate with staff, campers, and families.
  • Engage and actively supervise the campers while at the pool.
  • Assist with tracking staff attendance.
  • Follow procedures of camp as mandated County, State and American Camp Association regulations.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned.

 

Qualifications include:

  • Ability to get into the pool, swim, and supervise activities.
  • Ability to physically assist campers in and out of the pool.
  • Ability to spend your camp day outdoors.
  • Ability to move equipment and supplies as required.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Knowledge of American Red Cross swim guidelines.
  • Prior experience working with school aged children with a wide range of abilities.
  • Ability to engage with campers and staff of all ages.
  • Ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards within the camp program.
  • Strong written and spoken language skills.

Must be available the entire camp season starting on June 17 going through mid-August.
