Role Overview

Maryland Hillel is seeking a Manager of Jewish Education and Experiences to join our team, bringing enthusiasm for student engagement, a passion for Jewish experiential education, and a commitment to building a vibrant and pluralistic Jewish community. This individual will be responsible for expanding and deepening Jewish educational opportunities on campus, inspiring and advising student-led initiatives and Shabbat programs. They will develop and teach compelling educational content, facilitate meaningful one-on-one conversations, and help students explore personal and communal connections to Jewish life.

As a key member of our dynamic programming team, the Manager of Jewish Education and Experiences will work collaboratively and independently to implement a strategic vision for Jewish learning and engagement. This role requires a creative and outgoing professional with strong interpersonal, communication, and project management skills, as well as experience in education, leadership development, and/or Jewish communal work. By working closely with student leaders and creating opportunities for meaningful Jewish experiences, this individual will play a vital role in shaping a thriving Jewish community on campus.

What You’ll Do

  • Build relationships with many students from diverse backgrounds through meaningful conversations, and by creating connections to opportunities in Jewish life on campus.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director to identify the Jewish educational needs of students not currently being served, and proactively create new opportunities to meet those needs.
  • Develop students’ Jewish literacy and empowerment through diverse learning opportunities and innovative curricula, tailored to different backgrounds and micro-communities, while collaborating with staff to create relevant content for fellowships and programs.
  • Engage the Jewish Greek Life community through formal and informal Jewish education and holiday programming. 
  • Deepen student leadership engagement with pluralism around Shabbat, Jewish holidays, and other Hillel-wide programming.
  • Be an accessible and approachable figure on campus, proactively meeting and developing student relationships, including those not previously engaged with Hillel.
  • Serve as a staff member on immersive experiences such as Birthright Israel and alternative breaks.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • A bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years in Jewish non-profit work, experiential or higher education. 
  • Creative problem-solving, proactive communication, and ability to collaborate across a large Hillel Staff.
  • Authentic Jewish expression - a willingness to share your Jewish values and practice with students in appropriate and accessible ways.
  • A good knowledge base of Jewish content. This ranges from traditional Jewish texts to contemporary Jewish wisdom, culture and unconventional Jewish sources. You can frame and illuminate contemporary experience through Torah.
  • Confidence initiating and running programs, and comfort asking questions. 
  • Creative problem-solving, proactive communication, and collaboration. 

What You’ll Receive

  • Salary range is $55-65k commensurate with experience.

About Maryland Hillel

Maryland Hillel, located in College Park, MD in close proximity to Washington, DC, enjoys a national reputation for its Jewish community, both due to its size with some 5,800 Jewish undergrads, and, more critically, due to the vibrancy of Jewish life on campus. A team of 9 professionals work in concert with Jewish students to facilitate a veritable menu of experiences and opportunities. Hillel strives to ensure that Jewish students derive meaning and value from connecting, in their individual ways, with our tradition, heritage, and Israel. Maryland Hillel draws students to the University of Maryland from around the country with large contingents from Maryland, the tristate area, Florida and California. Following many years of growth, Hillel is conducting a capital campaign to construct a custom-built 38,000 square foot Jewish student center to continue to support this thriving Jewish community into the future.
