Opportunity Summary

The JQ Youth Program Manager (YPM) will spearhead, design, create, and promote teen-based events, identity-enriching opportunities, and leadership development initiatives for JQ’s teens and our youth program partners in and around the Los Angeles area. The YPM will have the opportunity to conduct outreach and build and strengthen partnerships in the community. The YPM will collaborate with institutions seeking opportunities to include LGBTQ+ youth and allies in their respective institutions in partnership and in alignment with JQ’s organizational vision and mission.

 

Key Details

Work Environment: Hybrid – approx. 70% work from home, 30% in-person in Los Angeles, with regular evening & weekend hours for events/programs

Salary: $50,000

Compensation

The salary is $50,000/year. JQ offers a competitive benefits package, including healthcare and a discretionary time off policy, and a fast-paced, queer normative, and dog-friendly work environment! 

JQ provides parental leave in accordance with California and Federal law. At this time, JQ is not able to offer paid parental leave, though we support eligible employees in receiving Paid Family Leave benefits from the State of California. JQ employees may also be able to utilize their paid discretionary time off toward parental leave for up to three consecutive weeks at a time. After three consecutive weeks, approval for additional paid time off may be provided upon discussion with and approval of your supervisor and the CEO. JQ honors parental leave for both gestational and non-gestational parents for welcoming biological children, adopted children, and children born through surrogacy.

YPM Primary Responsibilities 

Oversee Arc of Experience, Goals, Strategy, and Engagement of Teen Programming 

  • Directly serve 150 or more teens through 8 planned Teen JQSA (JQ’s LGBTQ+ teen programming) in-person events including a day-long retreat developed in partnership with other Jewish institutions 
  • Work with supervisor to create, plan, and schedule  teen programs, outputs, and goal-oriented outcomes 
  • Create promotional copy and programmatic content for teen events 
  • Supervise and lead teen events (often hosted on weekends)
  • Maintain and update programming and event materials housed at the JQlub 
  • Manage teen programming budget and request checks or invoices as needed 
  • Collect and submit itemized receipts and contracts to relevant professionals 
  • Develop, utilize, and aggregate post-event teen survey data 
  • Serve as primary point person at JQ on all teen matters
  • Develop and execute strategy to engage and steward teen leadership
  • Engage LGBTQ+ Jewish teens and allies throughout greater LA through regular outreach
  • Be a strategic thought leader and partner with professional team in designing the arc of programmatic experience for teens 
  • Hold accountability for the success of teen programming 
  • Cultivate and lead a teen advisory board of teen leaders, communicating regularly to plan future events, gather feedback, and ensure programs are relevant, engaging, and meet grant requirements

Youth & Teen Education, Outreach, Engagement, and Collaborative Community Partnership Work 

  • Offer JQ educational workshops and trainings to teen communities and partner organizations serving youth, including teens/students and youth program/service professionals at synagogues, public and private schools, religious school programs, camps, and secular teen programs. 
  • Create curriculum for youth and teen education in collaboration with relevant JQ professionals 
  • Consult on teen youth educational curriculum and training tools for partner organizations 
  • Maintain and update educational materials housed at the JQlub 
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with Teen JQSA participants, parents, partners, and alumni
  • Serve as primary point person on collaborative teen programming with community partners 
  • Conduct regular outreach to relevant institutions and communities promoting JQ’s social, educational, and wellness offerings for LGBTQ+ Jewish teens
  • Engage LGBTQ+ Jewish teens and allies throughout greater LA through regular outreach through a variety of platforms - such as email, text, social media, etc.

Communications 

  • Assist JQ team with communication plan to promote teen programs, mission fulfillment work, and fundraising 
  • Draft teen related advertisements, promotional materials, newsletter copy, social media, and printed teen content 
  • Work with the Digital Marketing Coordinator (DMC)  to update teen content on JQ’s website as needed 
  • Use/utilize and ensure proper branding, marketing, and creation of associated collateral 
  • Share relevant media and cross promotional opportunities when appropriate 
  • Post JQ Social Media content relevant for teens/partners (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.) 
  • Work with DMC to create promotional graphics/flyers for teen events 
  • Work with DMC and Director of Community Programs (DCP) on creation of event ticket forms and Google forms as needed 

Additional responsibilities 

  • Implement and complete teen related grant outputs 
  • Represent JQ at private/public functions as needed 
  • Support DCP and professional team on larger community events 
  • Create and supervise an online queer Jewish teen space for (50) teens to foster connection, community, and ongoing communication
  • Ensure the collection of appropriate data and information regarding each component of teen-specific work 
  • Represent JQ at private/public functions as needed

Qualifications Required 

  • BA (required), MA (a plus) 
  • 2-plus years experience in teen education or teen programming 
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills 
  • Commitment and passion for JQ’s mission and core values 
  • Ability to carefully listen to and understand the needs of teens, parents, stakeholders, and partners 
  • Flexibility to attend evening and/or weekend meetings and/or events 
  • A strong facilitator, content creator, leader, and storyteller 
  • The ability to draw connections between learning, personal experience, and current-day contexts to inspire people to invest in personal growth and change 
  • Experience developing engaging materials and teaching to diverse audiences 
  • Excellent listening skills 
  • The ability to bring attention and awareness to the intersections of LGBTQ+ inclusion, diversity, and racial equity in approach, and has personal lived experience that directly relates to the role 

Qualifications Preferred 

  • Experience with the LGBTQIA+ community 
  • Experience with the Jewish community 
  • Experience with youth experiential education and engagement 
  • Jewish educational background 
  • Experience with marketing, outreach, social media, etc.
  • Ability to develop and teach engaging programs that inspire people to change their beliefs 
  • Motivational writer and speaker 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse community groups
