Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy is a pluralistic Jewish day school for students in grades 6-12. Located in Bryn Mawr, PA (metropolitan Philadelphia), Barrack is the premier Jewish day school in the Delaware Valley, attracting students from Philadelphia and its suburbs, Allentown, southern New Jersey, and Wilmington, Delaware. The school integrates a comprehensive and rigorous college preparatory curriculum with the teaching of essential Jewish and American values and texts. Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and caring educator to serve as a full-time Jewish Studies teacher beginning in late August 2025. 

Interested candidates must have the ability to collaborate with colleagues, plan student-centered lessons, and foster a growth mindset for each of their students. The successful candidate will infuse joy and passion into Jewish learning and build an inclusive classroom culture. In addition, the candidate should seek professional growth through team meetings, professional development opportunities, and collaboration with Barrack colleagues. Ideal candidates should have a strong work ethic and enjoy teaching middle school and high school students with energy and enthusiasm. Jewish studies teachers often teach Jewish studies (may include rabbinics, philosophy, Jewish life and culture, etc.) and Tanakh courses as well as lead a Shaharit group Monday-Thursday mornings and serve as a student advisor.

Qualifications include: 

  • A bachelor’s degree with a strong background in educating middle and/or upper school students grades six through twelve. Master’s degree or rabbinic ordination candidates are preferred.
  • A collaborative spirit and an ability to function as a member of a team with administrators, teachers, students, and parents
  • A positive and strong work ethic
  • Ability to differentiate instruction
  • Interest in developing Jewish studies and Tanakh curricula in partnership with Jewish Studies faculty
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner
  • Ability to teach and read Jewish sources utilizing original Hebrew text
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills with experience in effective communication with parents, students, teachers, and staff
  • Kindness, patience, and a healthy sense of humor
  • Proficiency in the use of classroom technology, including but not limited to: Google Suite, learning management systems, and email management
