Young Family Engagement Associate
Employee Status: Part-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director of Congregational Engagement and Programming
Schedule: 10-15 hours per week, flexible schedule required including some weekends
Salary/Benefits: $25-28 per hour; access to 403b plan (no employer contributions)
About Us
Temple Rodef Shalom is a Reform Jewish congregation located in the Northern Virginia suburbs just outside Washington, DC. Since our founding in 1962, we have grown into the largest Jewish congregation in Virginia, serving over 1,700 households. We are bustling with activity: we serve over 200 families in our Early Childhood Center, nearly 800 students in our Religious School and hundreds of people each week who walk through our doors to pray, sing, learn, connect and mark life cycle moments.
The Young Family Engagement Associate will lead our engagement efforts for families as they prepare to welcome a child, through birth and into the early toddler years (up to age 2). He/She/They will build relationships with families in this cohort by developing programming to enhance our current offerings, improving our marketing efforts and serving as a key connector for families in our community and those who may be .
Essential Responsibilities
Relationships
- Serve as front-facing point person for members and prospective members in this demographic
- Have 1:1 meetings with members/prospective members in this demographic to build relationships, engage them in programming and connect them with peers.
- Share news about an expectant or growing family (birth or adoption) with our clergy team, Sisterhood and ECC, and track information in our database.
- Work cross-functionally (with the clergy, engagement, membership and ECC) to elevate this work
Programming
- Identify gaps in our current offerings and develop new and relevant programs (examples include but are not limited to: expectant parent gatherings, birth preparation classes, infertility or adoption resources, infant CPR, etc.)
- Staff our new “Rise and Shine” Shabbat morning program and other events developed through this initiative
- Coordinate logistics, including food, space reservations, decorations, and vendor arrangements
- Assist with staffing our monthly Tot Shabbat and Bubbles and Babies outreach programs
Strategy and Administration
- Manage recruitment efforts for our New Moms Group, in partnership with ECC staff
- Market and publicize Young Family events and programs on relevant social media platforms and groups
- Identify and cultivate relationships with organizations and professionals for potential collaborations.

- Have basic knowledge of Jewish traditions and calendar or have a strong desire and aptitude to learn
- A passion for early childhood education and community engagement.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 2-3 years customer service, program management or related work experience
- Experience with parenting programs or families with young children preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for 2-3 hours at a time
- Ability to staff programs and events that require periods of mingling/interacting with people
