Come join our teaching team at the HCS Hebrew School, a K-7 program dedicated to providing a warm, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can explore their Jewish identities, deepen their understanding of Jewish traditions, and become active, ethical members of the community. At HCS, every child and family feels celebrated and valued, as we embrace differences and inspire a love of Jewish culture, traditions, and community, fostering a deep connection to Jewish identity and lifelong learning.
HCS Educators Responsibilities include:
Teaching one class of 5-10 students in our K-7 school
Helping students form connections with one another and feel comfortable in a synagogue setting
Using provided curricular resources to plan and lead learning activities/ send lesson plans to the Education Director and receive support
Being creative, flexible, collaborative, friendly, and full-hearted
Being respectful of our students' Jewish beliefs, identity and identity development: gender, LGBTQIA+ community affiliation, racial identity etc.
Collaborating with the Director of Education on supporting students with diverse learning and behavioral needs
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Jewish culture, customs, traditions, history, and Torah.
- Strong Hebrew reading skills and comfort with a Siddur. Hebrew fluency is not a requirement.
- Experience teaching in a Hebrew School, Jewish camp, or youth group or other teacher experience is preferred, but not required.
- All staff at our school must be vaccinated against COVID-19
Schedule:
- Sunday Hebrew School 10 am-12:00 pm
- September through May
Compensation:
Competitive salary: $50/hour
One hour prep time pay per month.
Teachers attend one paid staff meeting a month before Hebrew School
