Congregation B'nai Zion is a thriving Conservative Congregation looking for professional leadership to enhance and support the positive trajectory of our congregation.  We have made considerable progress over the past 5 years without an Executive Director through the efforts of volunteers and staff and wish to solidify our position for many years to come.

Purpose of Position:

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the senior administrative partner to the Rabbi and Board President and is responsible for managing the synagogue’s day-to-day administrative and operational functions.  The ED develops, implements, and manages internal processes and systems.  The ED participates in setting annual and longer-range plans and leads the staff towards successful execution of those plans.

Reporting Structure:

The ED is accountable to the Board of Directors and reports to the Board President.  The ED shares responsibility with the Board President and the Rabbi for ensuring that plans are developed in-line with the congregation’s Mission, Vision, and Strategic Goals.  The ED serves as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee.  The ED is responsible for deploying staff to achieve the items outlined in the job while staying within the personnel budget approved by the board.

Primary Roles:

  • Organizational Management and Supervision
    • Hire, train, and manage office, kitchen, and building maintenance staff.
    • Manage relationships with all outside vendors.
    • Ensure all events and activities within the building are properly set up and staffed, and all logistics are managed.
    • Ensure that all policies for these events are followed.
  • Financial Administration and Oversight
    • Lead all synagogue financial operations, implementing and managing internal controls to ensure integrity and transparency.
    • Lead the budgeting process, working in partnership with the Treasurer, Finance Committee, and staff.
    • Manage all banking relationships and financial systems including Shul Cloud and QuickBooks.
    • Generate financial statements, financial reports, and analysis to support the Finance Committee, Board, and lay committees.
    • Generate proposed dues schedule for review with dues committee.
    • Work with the dues retention committee to coordinate collections of past due balances.
    • Work with Treasurer to manage cash balances to ensure adequate funds for operations and put excess funds in short-term investments if available.
  • Fundraising
    • Create and implement systems to support effective fundraising efforts
    • Support lay-led fundraising initiatives.
    • Foster a culture of philanthropy.
  • Programming Development and Support
    • Work with Rabbi and Lay Leadership to develop ideas for religious, cultural, educational, and social programming.
    • Provide leadership and support to committees in developing and executing programming.
  • Membership, Marketing, and Communications
    • Support potential new members through the membership process
    • Ensure accuracy of membership information including demographic, psychographic, and financial records.
    • Manage communications via newsletters, email blasts, social media, and in building flyers and signage to effectively engage our members and the broader community.
    • Serve as an ambassador of CBZ with both internal and external audiences.
  • Technology
    • Ensure that all computers, phone systems, security video, streaming systems, etc. are working properly.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with technology service providers.
    • Provide input to possible enhancements and upgrades to our systems.
  • Kitchen Operations
    • Ensure the kitchen is staffed and effectively executing our in-person and take out meal programs.
    • Ensure that all necessary menus are developed.
    • Ensure that all food safety procedures are followed and documented
    • Ensure food is procured to meet our needs.
    • Coordinate with outside caterers when necessary for events or programs.
  • Facilities and Security Management
    • Work with building maintenance staff to ensure the facility is properly maintained.
    • Ensure building repairs are identified and fixed.
    • Maintain relationships with outside contractors for various repair and maintenance requirements.
    • Work with tenant of building to ensure lease terms are followed and a strong working relationship is maintained.
    • Work with House committee for guidance on building needs.
    • Coordinate with security personnel to ensure coverage for services and events.
    • Ensure that building entry system is maintained and key fob holder records are continuously maintained.
  • Cemetery Administration
    • Ensure that cemetery records including plot assignments are meticulously maintained.
    • Ensure that cemetery bylaws are followed, and any exceptions requests are brought to the Executive Committee for review.
    • Work with Rabbi to coordinate funeral arrangements.
    • Work with cemetery contractors to ensure they are meeting our standards.
  • Leadership, Planning and Board Support
    • As a member of the executive team, work with the Rabbi and Board to create, affirm, and periodically review the long-term vision for CBZ.
    • Serve as a key driver of strategic planning projects and ensure their success.
    • Serve as a resource to the Board and committees by providing timely, accurate, and transparent reporting and projections.
    • Work with other Jewish organizations in town to ensure effective coordination on community initiatives and events.
    • Write and manage grants with Jewish Federation of El Paso, The El Paso Jewish Community Foundation and others to support programming and other needs.
    • Attend and support all Board and Executive Committee meetings, and committee meetings as required.
Salary80,000.00 - 90,000.00 Annual
