Role Overview

The Director of Development is responsible for ensuring the fiscal health and sustainability of Texas Hillel by leading, managing, and supervising the organization’s fundraising activities . This position reports directly to the Executive Director and plays a crucial role in advancing Texas Hillel’s mission to empower and support Jewish students at UT.  In partnership with the Board of Directors, the Development Committee,  and the Executive Director, the Director of Development will create and implement Texas Hillel’s development strategies and fundraising campaigns to achieve annual fundraising goals.  The Director of Development is responsible for  both short- and long-term fundraising strategies, with a particular focus on major gifts and endowment growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement a comprehensive annual development plan in collaboration with the Executive Director to achieve an annual fundraising goal of $1.4 million+ 
  • Work with the Executive Director and lay leaders to develop and manage a portfolio of donors and prospects with an emphasis on building Hillel’s major gifts program
  • Plan and organize special events for current and prospective supporters
  • Assist in the implementation of an endowment/planned giving campaign in partnership with the Executive Director and volunteer leadership
  • Conduct research and prepare background materials for grant proposals
  • Oversee fundraising operations including donor database, gift processing, and gift acknowledgement including preparation of  monthly benchmark reports as well as tracking engagements and campaign outcomes. 
  • Supervise and mentor a development team of two professionals, including the Family and Alumni Relations Manager and part-time Marketing Manager.
  • Oversee donor engagement, stewardship, and recognition and cultivation programs.
    • Track and manage grants and organizational partnerships
    • Identify and develop new revenue streams.
    • Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, ensuring tailored engagement and stewardship plans.
    • Donor event oversight.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and Development Committee by providing strategic guidance, tools, and training to enhance donor cultivation efforts.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years experience in development leadership, nonprofit management, or major gifts fundraising. 
  • Experience mentoring and supervising a team.
  • Direct solicitation experience.
  • Strong proficiency in donor software, data analysis, and financial oversight.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Passion for Jewish life, higher education, and student engagement.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual salary of $90,000-$110,000 commensurate with experience.
