Hebrew Teacher

The Davis Academy in Atlanta, Georgia is seeking candidates for our Hebrew Department. The Hebrew Teacher will implement multiple approaches to Hebrew language instruction and must be proficient in the use of instructional technology and online textbooks. The ideal candidate will possess dynamic and innovative teaching skills, be familiar with best practices in teaching second language acquisition, as well as have experience with a diverse population of learners with the ability to instruct them using differentiated instruction. The Hebrew teacher will work together with a team to develop exciting, engaging, and meaningful lesson plans based on the curriculum provided.

Members of the Hebrew department work collaboratively in designing and delivering a comprehensive Hebrew education to students in a supportive and engaging environment which values the whole child. They bring Hebrew language to life throughout the school and inspire students with an appreciation for and mastery of Hebrew as the language of the Jewish people. The Hebrew teacher integrates Jewish values, traditions and culture in teaching, and will cultivate strong ties with the State of Israel and the Jewish people. Salary is based on experience.

Essential Functions

• Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
• Plans and assists in the implementation of school wide holiday and Israel programming.
• Provides feedback and positive reinforcement to students.
• Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
• Meets with parents for formal conferences and informal conferences as needed.
• Implements appropriate classroom management procedures.
• Assumes responsibility for supervising students in out of class settings including emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, lunchtime, and recess.
• Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and workshops.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, Hebrew language, secondary language education or Judaic Studies
• Three years of teaching experience.
• Thorough knowledge of Hebrew and foreign language instruction.
• Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.
• Accepts supervision and constructive criticism objectively.
• Demonstrates good judgment in handling school related incidents and events.
