POSITION OVERVIEW At a time of significant growth for Momentum, we are excited to add a new position to the Development team to grow and enhance the philanthropic support for Momentum worldwide. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Principal Gifts Officer is responsible for identifying and developing strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors with special focus on significant philanthropic gifts of $100,000 and over. They will collaborate with the team to help build a pipeline of new donors as well as assist in the strategy to increase gifts from select existing donors. Proactively collaborates and communicates with key lay leaders and staff to assure a unified and integrated approach for cultivation and/or solicitation. They will maximize the use of database management and reporting and donor research tools to reach strategic objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create, develop and manage your own portfolio of major and principal gift prospects (5 and 6 figure gifts), and design and implement strategies for their cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Develop and execute individualized development plans for significant donors and prospects – including the effective use of lay leaders and staff.
- Support the overall fundraising strategy by utilizing an approach that leverages organizational projects to maximize potential new donation opportunities (i.e. Leadership Development, Educational and Digital Resources, etc) and utilizes development department engagement activities (trips, events, programs) to maximize new donor identification and cultivation opportunities, including creating an executing follow up plans for major gift prospects.
- Maximize domestic and international travel in order to develop regional cultivation opportunities utilizing donors and lay leaders in key strategic focus cities for development and partnership. Work with the partnership department to plan successful fundraising opportunities.
- Working closely with other members of the development team to form mentor relationships and create a team approach to prospect strategy and group thinking.
- Support board member fundraising activity with donor research, materials preparation and relevant follow-up.
- Identify, prioritize, and cultivate foundation prospects in conjunction with the Associate Director – Foundation Engagement.
- Conduct research, draft correspondence and proposals as needed to support relationship building and strategy implementation.
- Attends targeted industry conferences that support annual stewardship and cultivation goals.
- Effectively utilizes the donor database (Salesforce) with timely and detailed entries to maintain an active and relevant reporting.
- Participates in department meetings and company-wide events, and performs other relevant duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field required
- At least 7 years of successful fundraising experience within a Jewish communal, higher education, or nonprofit setting.
- Significant experience identifying, cultivating, and soliciting 5, 6, and 7 figure gifts from individual donor and family foundations.
- Excellent PC literacy with strong competency in all Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint). Prior experience with project management software such as Asana is strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in development-related aspects of databases, preferably experience with Salesforce.
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong and trusted relationships with staff, donors, board members and volunteers.
- Excellent writer with proposal writing skills a plus
- Results-oriented with desire to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and adapt and respond to rapidly changing priorities
- Exceptional problem-solving skills; excellent judgment and decision-making ability
- Demonstrated ability to be successful working across various populations of the Jewish community
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Ability to occasionally work non-traditional hours based on operational needs of working in a global environment with staff in multiple time zones
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally to meet with donors and attend events, at least 6 times per year.
