The Senior Director of Community Services reporting to the CEO, ensures the goals of JFCS's Harvey & Barbara Brodsky Enrichment Center are realized through supportive community services for individuals and meaningful volunteer connections while also overseeing that all community services, those that take place external to JFCS are represented with the highest of standards.   The Senior Director is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of programs in partnership with JFCS Program Leaders.  This accomplished leader:

  • Is an innovative thinker with an ability to make responsible assessments for new business while feeling comfortable taking risks
  • Is an effective communicator and relationship-builder and is comfortable selling JFCS Services
  • Identifies, plans, implements and manages effective and efficient programs and services responding to identified community needs
  • Thinks strategically, positions the Center and the programs offered based on Agency strategic planning and business plan development
  • Establishes strategic public and private partnerships throughout the Greater Philadelphia region as appropriate in support of our objectives
  • Serves as the leader of the Agency’s Community Outreach team; sets direction for, engages and energizes team members
  • Contributes to the overall wellbeing of the Agency by participating in strategic planning and other ongoing efforts to maximize the Center’s benefit to the communities we serve

RESPONSIBILITIES

Brodsky Center/LGBTQ Community Services/Our Closet..In Your Neighborhood Services

  • Oversees the work of the Director of the JFCS Brodsky Center
  • Works to utilize existing and establish new supportive group activities that meet Program needs in line with the overall Agency mission; works in partnership with Program Directors to assess community need and initiates Center delivery solutions to meet these needs.
  • Strategically innovates and creates a vision to meet the goals of the Center so that it translates into successful programming
  • Interfaces with Program Directors, volunteers, and outside allied professionals to create and support ongoing programming
  • Strategically participates in programming to ensure continued growth through networking with participants and providers of service
  • Proactively collaborates and sources information to grow and add programming with partnered providers (internal and external)
  • Partners with the Development team to coordinate activities and funding opportunities to help progress the funding of programs throughout the agency

 Leadership

  • Recruits, hires, orients, supervises and evaluates performance of all direct reports
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment that encourages creativity, innovation, and professional growth.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff to ensure their success in donor cultivation, development, and stewardship.
  • Sets clear expectations and provides timely and relevant feedback to direct reports (for developing and improving performance) and holds them accountable for following through on action plans.
  • Provides leadership and funding oversight for LGBTQ services, Our Closet/In Your Neighborhood programming and funding
  • Collaborates in developing policies and procedures for all community services
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  •  At least 5 years leading and managing staff and programming
  • Masters preferred in Social Service, Community Relations, Business or related fields
  • Familiarity with the Jewish Community-synagogues, day schools, JCCs and other Jewish institutions
  • Extensive background, knowledge and skill in program development and delivery
  • Knowledge of emerging and innovative techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to be creative and innovative; to see beyond” what exists” and express what “could be”

 OTHER  REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to travel as needed for donor meetings, events, and other activities
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate donor schedules and events
  • Adherence to ethical fundraising practices and confidentiality standards
  • Ability to meet agency required background clearances
  • Ability to meet and maintain agency vaccination policy at hire and as required 

This position will be primarily based in Bala Cynwyd office but may be required to spend some time in our other office locations as needed.  Incumbent must have a valid driver’s license, access to independent transportation, and have automobile liability insurance for any vehicle owned or operated.  Successfully completing a criminal background check is a condition of employment.

Program Director Requirements

The Program Director oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs within the organization. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Budget Oversight: Manages program budgets, understanding the revenue sources, and ensuring stewardship of financial resources are allocated effectively to meet funder reporting and impact expectations
  2. Strategic Planning: Develops and drives program vision and strategies aligned with organizational goals, looking to future needs based on current trends and input from stakeholders (staff, clients, leaders, partner org's, funders research, etc.), adapts as necessary
  3. Learning Culture: Partners with Program Evaluation to foster a learning culture that aligns with program initiatives and organizational goals; utilizing the data in decision making
  4. Organizational Culture: Leads the organization through the value, beliefs, attitudes, systems and rules that outline and influence employee behavior; the culture reflects how staff and stakeholders experience the organization. Including: alignment to organization objectives, a culture of appreciation, culture of trust, resilience, performance focused, encompass teamwork, integrity and transparency, and psychological safety.
  5. Performance Evaluation: Continuously assesses program performance and presents and makes necessary adjustments in a timely manner.  Develops and guides staff in professional growth
  6. Partnership Development: Establishes and maintains external partnerships with other organizations, agencies, and community groups to leverage resources, funding, and program expansion.
  7. Development Sourcing and Proposal Writing: Identifies and pursues sources of grant funding and donors. Works collaboratively with the grant and development teams to craft grant proposals to secure funding for program initiatives

JFCS expects the program director to meet these key responsibilities and to request appropriate training and tools to meet these requirements.
