Part-Time Non-Exempt Salaried Position

Salary paid biweekly with an annual range of $36-40K

Temple Beth Tikvah (TBT) seeks a Music Coordinator who will support religious services and other programming through performance and administrative tasks. This role will work with and report directly to the principal Rabbi and the Executive Director. 

Duties include:

  • Sing and accompany (guitar or keyboard instrument) for musical portions of Friday night and/or Saturday morning religious services on dates determined in coordination with synagogue leadership. 
  • Assist at Sunday morning Religious School T’filah/Song Sessions and occasional special family programs as needed and coordinated with synagogue leadership. 
  • Lead (or coordinate) the TBT Adult Choir in weekly rehearsals and monthly participation in a Shabbat service as well as High Holy Day services.
  • Provide consistency and continuity for the musical portions of services by coordinating the selection of musical repertoire and communicating that repertoire to all participating musicians.
  • Coordinate additional musicians (their schedules and responsibilities) for religious services and other programs.
  • Oversee, in coordination with the principal Rabbi, the musical aspects of High Holy Day services.
  • Participate and assist with holiday and special programs as assigned.

While the primary duties of this position generally fall into a regular schedule of services and programs, this position could allow for a flexible work schedule to accommodate outside commitments, dependent on approval by the principal Rabbi and Executive Director.

 

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will be an accomplished musician who is equally comfortable singing on the bima and accompanying other musicians and congregational singing.  Other minimum qualifications include:

  • knowledge of traditional and contemporary Jewish service music 
  • familiarity with common Jewish musical idioms
  • experience in collaborating with singers and instrumentalists
  • ability to sight-read and accompany from a lead sheet
  • demeanor suitable for performance in an inclusive, religious setting
  • effective written and verbal communication skills
  • skilled in handling a variety of administrative responsibilities
  • ability to adapt to changing situations, learn new skills, and embrace new challenges
  • ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Formal vocal training
  • Familiarity with Torah and Haftarah trope
  • Ability to work extended hours during Jewish High Holy Days

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in music preferred or equivalent experience
  • Documented history of successful performance experience in a religious setting
