Position Overview:

The Rosenblatt High School at DKJA is seeking a Judaic Studies Teacher & Judaic Studies Department Chair for the 2025-26 school year. This dual-role position will include teaching high school Judaic Studies courses while also serving as Department Chair, overseeing the Judaic curriculum, and professional development for the Judaic Studies faculty in the high school. This position would report directly to the Rosenblatt High School Principal and DKJA’s Rabbinic Director.

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Teach engaging and rigorous high school Judaic Studies courses, incorporating Torah texts, TaNaKh, Navi, Torah commentaries, Rabbinics, and Jewish philosophy.
  • Foster textual fluency, guiding students in navigating, reading, analyzing, and applying Jewish texts and commentaries to contemporary life.
  • Create an inclusive and dynamic learning environment that encourages critical thinking, inquiry, and personal connection to Jewish learning.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  • Facilitate Tefilla services for high school students.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for students, exemplifying Jewish values in and out of the classroom.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, including Judaic Studies and General Studies faculty, to integrate Jewish values across disciplines.
  • Support school-wide initiatives, programs, and events related to Jewish education and culture.

Department Chair Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Judaic faculty in the high school to map out a scope and sequence for Judaic Studies from 9th through 12th grade, ensuring alignment with DKJA’s mission and educational philosophy.
  • Facilitate teacher training and professional development in collaboration with the High School Principal, supporting faculty growth and instructional excellence.
  • Ensure that students are graduating with the content knowledge, critical thinking skills, and textual proficiency expected of a DKJA graduate.
  • Oversee the evaluation and continuous improvement of Judaic curricula, integrating innovative teaching methods and best practices in Jewish education.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and mentorship within the Judaic Studies department.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Judaic Studies department and school administration, advocating for resources and curricular needs.
  • Assist in the hiring and onboarding of new Judaic Studies faculty members.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Jewish Education, Jewish Studies, Rabbinics, or a related field.
  • Extensive background in Torah texts, including TaNaKh, Navi, Rabbinics, and commentaries.
  • Proficiency in Jewish philosophy and Jewish Life Cycle.
  • Classroom teaching experience at the high school level (minimum 3-5 years preferred).
  • Proven experience in curriculum development and faculty leadership.
  • Ability to engage students in text-based learning while making material relevant and accessible.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with faculty, students, and families.
  • Passion for Jewish education and a commitment to inspiring students in their Jewish learning and identity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in a Jewish day school or similar educational setting.
  • Fluency in Hebrew language is a plus.
  • Familiarity with differentiated instruction, innovative educational strategies, and educational technology.
  • Prior experience in a leadership or administrative role within Jewish education.
