Park East Synagogue (herein ‘PES’), located on New York City’s Upper East Side, under the leadership of Rabbi Arthur Schneier, is celebrating its 135th year as New York City’s preeminent synagogue. Park East Synagogue is known around the world as a leading Modern Orthodox Synagogue with outstanding rabbinical and cantorial acclaim. PES is also affiliated with the Rabbi Arthur Schneier Park East Day School (Early Childhood – 8th Grade). 

The PES Search Committee, appointed by the Board of Trustees, is conducting a search for a dynamic Rabbi who can become the successor to Rabbi Schneier. The new Rabbi will have characteristics of a leader, teacher, speaker, and pastoral figure.

We are looking for the following qualities in our new Rabbi:

  • A Rabbi who is learned in Torah and Halacha, who can give both an excellent and engaging shiur and an inspirational sermon
  • A warm and approachable person who will be willing to take the time to develop a personal connection with each of us, including our Day School children, younger families, and young professionals
  • A person with superb pastoral skills, who will be there for our membership during all life cycle events
  • A Rabbi who is a proud and committed Zionist who will serve as a role model for supporting and relating to the State of Israel
  • A Rabbi who is a strong leader with strong executive skills and an entrepreneurial spirit
  • A Rabbi with a strong grounding in, and appreciation for, secular knowledge and American heritage
  • A leader who manages through inclusion
  • A unifier, a person who listens, and strives, whenever possible, to build consensus
  • An open minded Rabbi who understands the pluralistic makeup of our synagogue’s congregation
  • The ability to fundraise and attract a significant number of new members
  • A Rabbi who has SMICHA (ordination) from Yeshiva University, Ohr Torah Stone, or other recognized Orthodox Rabbinic institutions, with at least 3 years Rabbinic experience
  • A Rabbi who resides in, or who has familiarity with, the tri-state area

The compensation for this position will be in the $200,000 + range, plus benefits, commensurate with experience and skill set.
