WE SEEK…a Membership Engagement Coordinator excited to partner with and support our innovative professional staff and lay leadership as we work together to create a warm, caring and vibrant environment that invites and encourages prospective members to join us and current members to feel connected to one another and to engage fully in the many spiritual, educational, social, and social action opportunities we offer.  

YOU WILL…be an important member of our staff who works collaboratively with our professional staff and lay leaders to craft and implement our strategies and efforts to recruit new members and retain existing members.

Your responsibilities will include:

Member Relations, Engagement and Recruitment – Working in partnership our professional staff, Marketing Coordinator and lay leaders, including the Membership and Marketing Committees, you will help to create and support programming that engages and inspires our members; reach out to our members to build positive relationships, ensuring that they feel valued, inspired, connected and engaged; and play a critical role in new member recruitment, welcoming and introducing prospects and encouraging their participation in our communal life; including:

 

  • Connecting with prospective members and creating programs for community outreach.
  • Creating and coordinating the implementation of an “on-boarding” program for new members that help to build strong connections to and within the community in their first year of membership.
  • Working with and supporting our Education Director in her efforts to recruit and on-board new members with children interested or enrolled in our “Jewish by Nature” educational programs.
  • Fostering a sense of belonging and connection among members through effective communications, personal outreach and community building programs and activities.
  • Assuring that all of our activities and programming regularly include a focus on member connection and relationship and community building.
  • Regularly contributing content to internal communications that fosters member connection and builds community as well as to external communications focused on attracting new members.
  • Organizing and coordinating volunteer opportunities to engage members in our synagogue life.


YOU WILL NEED…the ability to build and nurture deep relationships with members and prospective members, getting to know them and what they want and need from the synagogue. You will possess the temperament to collaborate effectively across diverse generations, perspectives and traditions. You will be both a “detail person” who can efficiently organize and execute others’ ideas as well as a creative, “outside the box thinker” who is able to design new member-centered programs and experiences that meet members’ needs and engage their emotions.

Some specific skills and experiences we expect:

  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • current technology skills, including CRM database management and Excel, with ability to learn and implement new systems as needed
  • social media capabilities
  • superior organizational skills and ability to manage project details and juggle multiple priorities at the same time
  • Judaic background and/or knowledge or experience appropriate for supporting synagogue membership, operations and programs

You will preferably be college-educated, but we will seriously consider you if you have equivalent skills and experience that can be demonstrated. Ideally, you will have a minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in a Jewish communal organization or similar non-profit environment.

YOUR SUPPORTERS AND COLLABORATORS…you will report directly to the Executive Director. We also expect that in your work you will regularly collaborate, communicate, confer, and meet directly and independently with the Clergy and Education Director, the Marketing Director as well as with lay leadership, including the Board President and the Membership and Marketing Committees, regarding member communication, engagement, programming, outreach and recruitment.

YOUR COMPENSATION & BENEFITS…this is a part-time position, 20 hours per week, with an anticipated salary range between $30 and $35/hour commensurate with your background and experience.

YOUR REGULAR SCHEDULE…will be generally be Tuesday through Friday, 9:30 to 2:30, with some flexibility as to how we will work together to arrange your work schedule.  We also want to make sure that you are present for special member and prospective member programs that will occur from time to time and, if and as requested, for Jewish holidays, some of which may include evenings. 

Because you will interact with the children in our community, we will require PA Child Abuse History, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Child Abuse History.  Beth Am Israel will cover the cost of these record checks.
