EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

New York, NY

Full-time, Hybrid Position

 

Overview:

We are a large private family foundation with global reach.  We seek to promote the unique cultural legacy and heritage of the Jewish people. 

Toward this end, we focus on (1) enriching and enhancing Jewish education, (2) growing the next generation of professional and volunteer leaders for the Jewish People, (3) improving the lives of the disadvantaged or underserved of the Jewish and general populations, (4) supporting and enriching Jewish arts and culture, (5) advancing science and medicine in Israel and through US /Israel partnerships, and (6) supporting education and social services in Israel.

Through our programs and grants, we strive to strengthen the Jewish communities in the US and Israel.

 

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Executive Director who is passionate about our mission and able to lead our organization with excellence. The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization’s operations, including programs, grants, financial management, and staff supervision. As a mentor to staff, the Executive Director will motivate and empower the team to achieve their best work.

They will work closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to ensure that the organization is fulfilling its mission.

Our ideal candidate will be a Jewish organizational leader with a proven track record of success. They will be passionate about our organization’s mission and committed to achieving our goals. The Executive Director will be a strategic thinker who is able to balance short-term needs with long-term planning. They will have excellent communication skills.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Organizational Leadership and Board of Directors Relations:

  • Collaborate with the CEO and Board of Directors to ensure that the organization is fulfilling its mission.
  • Provide regular updates to the Board of Directors regarding the organization’s operations and performance.
  • Work with the CEO and Board of Directors to develop and implement policies and procedures that support the organization’s mission and goals.

 

Staff Management & Mentorship:

  • Serve as a leader to the organization’s staff, providing guidance, motivation, and support to help them succeed in their roles.
  • Provide regular feedback to staff members, both in the form of ongoing coaching and formal performance evaluations, to ensure that they are meeting performance expectations and growing in their roles.
  • Ensure that staff members are fulfilling their roles effectively, and work with them to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.

 

Program & Grant Management:

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of programs, working with staff to ensure that programs are mission-driven and executed with excellence.
  • Evaluate program outcomes on an ongoing basis, using performance metrics to adjust and improve as needed.
  • Work with grants staff to ensure that the grants are aligned with the strategic plan and mission of the organization.
  • Review grant reports to assess the impact of the grants and work with staff to determine which grants warrant continued funding.

 

Financial Management & Leadership:

  • Oversee the organization’s financial management in partnership with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), ensuring that the organization is operating with financial prudence for long-term sustainability.
  • Work with the CFO and other staff members to develop an annual budget that aligns with the organization’s mission.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in nonprofit financial management and ensure that the organization’s financial policies and procedures are in compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in nonprofit management of Jewish organizations (e.g., foundations, camps, JCCs, schools).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and Board of Directors.
  • Passion for the organization’s mission and values.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit financial management and budgeting.
  • A. and preferably an M.A. in relevant field.
  • MBA, JD or CPA a plus.

 

This is a full-time, hybrid (3-days/week in office) position with outstanding benefits.

 

Annual Salary is $400,000.00 + and commensurate with experience.
