5th-8th Grade Band Director
Job Summary
We are seeking to fill a part-time, one-day a week position. Band classes are currently taught to 5th - 8th grade students during the day, but we can be flexible for the right candidate!
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties of this job include:
- Teach performance band to fifth through eighth grade students, both in large band and small group lessons as needed.
- Integrate standards of music education into the program.
- Provide instruction in a wide range of music. Familiarity with Jewish music is a plus, but not required.
- Prepare students to participate in two major concerts per band group each year.
- Recruit fifth grade band students, audition and recommend instruments
- Coordinate instrument rentals as needed
- Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Communicate with parents to discuss students’ progress as needed.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service and professional growth activities.
- Demonstrate a commitment to best practice in all dimensions of effective teaching.
