POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for directing the aquatics program for Squirrel Hill, South Hills and Monroeville locations, which includes: Learn to Swim Classes, Aquatics Exercise classes, Competitive Swim Teams, Lifeguarding and related administrative duties. Maintains varied summer assignment.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Instruct and/or hire instructors for Learn to Swim Classes (infants through advanced), and Aquatic Exercise Classes, as needed.
- Provide lifeguarding oversight at facility pools.
- Supervise and direct aquatics staff, which includes monitoring payroll and scheduling, as needed.
- Provides 20-30 hours of direct service per week, to include two hours of private lessons per pay period. Private swim lessons may be conducted, outside of assigned work schedule.
- Develop policies and procedures for Early Childhood personnel.
- Coordinate and oversee competitive swim teams.
- Establish effective working relationships with members through the committee process.
- Actively maintain and promote agency customer service standards.
- Work closely with the Marketing Department to promote programs and events related to the Aquatics Department.
- Supervise, train, and recruit qualified lifeguarding personnel.
- Oversee and monitor department budget.
- Work closely with other departments to develop aquatics programs and activities.
- Works effectively with other key JCC departments to provide effective and efficient service delivery.
- Ability to define problems, develop solutions, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to manage and balance a variety of responsibilities in a fast-paced environment under tight time constraints.
- Ensures compliance with all state, federal and local regulating agencies.

Supervision from Senior Director of Facilities & Wellness
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education or related field with at least three years experience in aquatics management.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. Occasionally the employee is required to sit. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to lift up to 40 pounds. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to obtain or possess PA Criminal History Clearance, PA Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Clearance, PA Mandated Reporter Training, First Aid/CPR Certification, Health Assessment, TB Test, Water Safety Instruction Certification, Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification, Certified Pool Operator Certification
