Virtual Hebrew teachers

Our unique, engaging, interactive religious school, Shoresh, is seeking virtual Hebrew teachers for our unique Hebrew@Home program for the 2020-21 school year starting in early October.

About Hebrew@Home: 3rd-6th grade learners have Hebrew instruction twice a week. In addition to learning Hebrew in a group setting during Friday Shoresh sessions, learners also attend Hebrew@Home, weekly one-on-one Zoom sessions with a teachers. Hebrew@Home is a 30-minute session where teachers help learners work on areas of the curriculum in which they’re struggling, allow advanced students to move forward, or tailor learning to the individual student.

This coming school year, Shoresh is looking to hire at least two Hebrew@Home teachers with experience teaching Hebrew who are available after school for one-on-one sessions. These teachers will only teach Hebrew@Home in a virtual setting. The school will set up periods of availability for the teachers and match learners to those time slots. Proximity to or availability to be in Chicago or Hyde Park is NOT required.

The ideal teacher will:
- Have experience teaching Hebrew to 3rd-6th grade learners
- Be able to schedule 30-minute Hebrew@Home sessions during times when students are available (typically 3:30-8:00 pm during the week)
- Have access to a computer and Zoom and be comfortable video conferencing
- Have energy and creativity for engaging students in an online setting by establishing rapport and playing games
- Be a dependable team member and a strong communicator with positive references

Hourly rate is commensurate with experience and competitive with Chicago-area religious school programs.
