Jewish Family & Career Services of Atlanta “JF&CS” is a Georgia non-profit organization with a roughly 13 million dollar budget. The agency makes hope and opportunity happen by providing integrated programs and services that maximize self-sufficiency and quality of life. The JF&CS Foundation holds the agency’s endowment and restricted fund assets. JF&CS is now seeking a Controller.
PURPOSE: Responsible for providing leadership and coordination of financial planning, debt financing, budget management and accounting services to the Agency efficiently and cost effectively. Responsible for ensuring that Agency accounting practices conform to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and for ensuring that internal controls are in place to provide for a separation of duties in all accounting/finance functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
•Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal controls and checks across all functions in the department
•Maintain the chart of accounts
•Prepare monthly financial statements for review by management
•Prepare reports on variances from Budget to present to management
•Research and follow up on questionable items in monthly financial reviews
•Prepare quarterly financial information for Budget and Finance committee and Board
•Prepare and monitor rolling 6 month cash flow projections
•Monitor daily cash flow, utilizing the Agency Line of Credit as needed
•Supervise and manage the productivity of the day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, cash receipts, invoicing and billing, customer credits, collections, and payroll
•Provide financial analysis as needed
•Transfer funds as needed between banking accounts
•Ensure transfers of appropriate funds to and from Investment Accounts
•Maintain fixed asset records and track depreciation expense
•Maintain personal property filing records
•Maintain all business licenses and track when renewals are due
•Advise on cost allocation methodologies and ensure costs are allocated appropriately
•Review monthly bank reconciliations prepared by the Accounts Receivable Coordinator and resolve any discrepancies
•Prepare quarterly reconciliations of the 941s to the GL
•Prepare all needed information for the audit and work with the auditors during their field work
•Design, establish and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to efficiently and effectively accomplish goals and objectives
•Work with program managers and billing coordinators to ensure proper accruals of fees and expenses each month
•Prepare invoices for funders and grantors
•Work closely with the CFO during the budget preparation process
•Monitor debt levels and compliance with any debt covenants
•Prepare necessary financial reports for funders
•Maintain clear and accurate financial records for all transactions for the appropriate period of time as detailed in the Agency Document Retention Policy
•Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of divisions and departments
•Manage fleet card accounts
•Work with various outsourced vendors as needed
•Other duties as needed
•Must have sufficient knowledge of general accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Knowledge of automated accounting and financial reporting systems. Knowledge of Federal and State financial regulations.Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and service line profitability analysis.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
•Must be technologically savvy. Must be proficient with software packages including Blackbaud Financial Edge and Financial Edge NXT, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows 10 and Outlook.Must be detail oriented. Must be able to learn new software packages as needed.Experience with SAP Concur preferred.Must be able to manage multiple tasks at one time and move quickly between various tasks.Must be able to work well with others, provide supervision and guidance. Must have the ability to motivate others to produce quality work with set time frames. Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
•Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or equivalent business experience and minimum of 10 years’ experience (including at least 3 years in non-profit experience) in accounting related field. MBA or CPA preferred but not required.
