Job Summary: Warm, welcoming, unaffiliated synagogue seeks a young family and children’s Religious Education Director to develop and manage education programs for children and young families. The majority of this position will be dedicated to the development of an innovative after-school heritage program for children grades TK-8, offering Jewish cultural and religious enrichment along with general afterschool enrichment. This position also includes growing our religious school program (within and without the afterschool program), planning our monthly children’s services and coordinating Jewish curriculum across all aspects of the temple’s youth educational offerings. Works closely with Cantor, Preschool Director, Director of Operations, Education Committee and the Board of Directors.



Programming duties for Afterschool program, Sunday school program, Sunday family workshops, Preschool, and children's services

Coordinate young family services including young family shabbat and children’s services for high holidays
Provide vision and strategy for afterschool program implementation and growth
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate and support teachers and volunteers
Develop curriculum
Provide instruction where necessary
Collaborate with Director of Operations on registration, advertising, and communications
Coordinate with the Cantor to support B’nai Mitzvah training where it overlaps with the after-school program
Provide age-appropriate Jewish education curriculum for preschool
Maintain a safety plan in coordination with other areas of the organization
Handle all discipline and special education concerns


Leadership:
Develop, in consultation with the spiritual leaders and lay leaders, a guiding vision for youth and family education
Communicate and promote this vision to multiple stakeholders (Board, congregants, families, prospective congregants, donors, community partners).
Create and oversee the budget for youth and family education programs
Work collaboratively with the Education Committee, made up of parents and lay leaders

Community Building:
Build warm and open relationships with families from diverse backgrounds.
Build intergenerational connections between families with children and other members of the community
Communicate effectively with families, staff, board, and the wider community, through synagogue newsletters, social media, and internal communications.
Identify and build partnerships with other youth and family programs in the wider community


The successful candidate: A creative Jewish educator, passionate about innovative Jewish education and the future of an engaged Jewish community. You have:
Knowledge and understanding of synagogue life, Jewish practice and holidays, and familiarity and comfort with sacred Jewish texts
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to take initiative, prioritize and manage time and staff
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
The ability to think strategically and creatively
Experience managing a budget
Proficiency in Hebrew
Experience working with boards, parents, volunteers, and lay leaders
A willingness to work some evenings and weekends
A willingness to work on the High Holidays and other major Jewish holidays
The ability to connect with children and families


Pluses:
Advanced degree in Education or Ordination
Musical ability
Shulcloud or other database experience
