Assistant Director, Gan Ilan Preschool

Temple Isaiah of Contra Costa County, Lafayette, California

Who we are: Gan Ilan Preschool at Temple Isaiah of Contra Costa County serves children 2-6 years old. We are licensed to care for children ages 24 months to first grade entry. We are a full time child care center, operating 7 am-5:30 pm Monday through Friday. At Gan Ilan, or “Garden of the Trees,” children learn through active exploration and interaction with adults, with other children, and with the environment around them. At our school, children are deeply respected as constructors of their own knowledge, and teachers are important partners in that process. Teachers engage in intentional planning to support each child’s unique interests and development. Our play-based curriculum is emergent and intertwined with Jewish life and practice. We place a heavy emphasis on spending time outdoors, engaging with natural materials, social-emotional teaching and learning, and whole child development.

What we are looking for: Our ideal candidate is an experienced educator who is knowledgeable about early childhood development, emergent curriculum, constructivist pedagogies, and relational and reflective practice. Warmth and compassion for children and families is a critically important asset. Additionally, our ideal candidate is a team player who calmly navigates the fast-paced school environment. The Assistant Director will play a vital role in our inclusive and dynamic school and should feel comfortable helping children, families, and staff grow and navigate the world of early childhood. Ideally, we are looking for an early childhood educator with previous school administration experience or an early childhood educator who is looking to make the exciting transition into early childhood program administration and leadership.

• Assist in recruitment, hiring, orientation, and professional development of staff
