Clinical Supervisor, Outpatient Counseling

Clinical Supervisor

Outpatient Counseling- Reports to the Director of Behavioral Health.

The Clinical Supervisor provides structured clinical supervision to psychotherapists in an outpatient counseling setting.

Provision and Coordination of Competent Supervision

The Clinical Supervisor;

Comprehends, applies and models a variety of therapeutic models exhibiting an adaptability to learning styles. Provides routine, structured reflection of practice, observation, evaluation and feedback, maintaining fidelity to Evidence-Based Practices and industry standards within a culture of learning.

Ensures treatment quality through routine review of the clinical record including; diagnostic and treatment impressions, assessments, referrals, and service notes to; improve therapeutic alliance, increase treatment engagement/progress and apply appropriate frequency and duration of treatment.

Collaborates with the Clinical Education Specialist to identify professional growth opportunities for clinicians.

Maintains and imparts working knowledge of agency privacy, safety and security policies as well as local, state and federal policies affecting delivery of mental health and addiction treatment services within an outpatient counseling setting.

Direct Service Provision

Maintains a small caseload, size dependent upon staff/client needs.


Provides oversight and/or intervention in psychiatric emergencies and complex clinical issues.

Maintains high quality of professional staff by interviewing, orienting and training new hires.


Other duties as assigned by department director.

Education, Licensure and Experience

Masters’ degree in Social Work with independent clinical license in good standing. LMSW, clinical designation required.

Minimum 3 years: Provision of psychotherapy to individuals and families across the lifespan.

Minimum 2 years: Clinical Supervision of practitioners providing psychotherapy.

Clinicians experienced in child/adolescent-centered counseling are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Competencies


Ability to create, manipulate and maintain documents in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, agency Electronic Health Record. Willingness and ability to enhance capacities as enabling technologies advance.


Possess approachable team-oriented attitude and ability to build rapport with clients, community and staff.
