POSITION DESCRIPTION: Operations Manager
Hours: The position is part-time, up to 20 hours/week on average, exempt. Hours will vary based on Jewish holidays, member life-cycle events and other synagogue needs. The schedule will be flexible based on the exercise of professional judgment with the expectation that regular office hours will be maintained 4 days a week, Tuesday-Friday.
Pay Range: Negotiable based on experience.
Job Summary: As a senior staff member, the Operations Manager has the responsibility of overseeing and managing day-to-day operations of the Congregation, including but not limited to facility operations, building/grounds maintenance and repairs, maintaining building use calendar, safety issues, and supply management S/he will work directly with our Board of Directors Operations Team Lead.
Reporting & Working Relationships: The Operations Manager is supervised by the Rabbi and is accountable to the President of the Board of Trustees. S/He works in partnership with the Rabbi, BIJ staff and lay-leaders, particularly the Operations Team Lead, representing the officers and directors in administering the affairs of the congregation.
Duties and Core Responsibilities:
Facilities Operations: Manage/oversee the office, troubleshoot operations issues, perform crisis intervention, guide day to day operations.
Building Responsibilities: Oversee building and grounds maintenance and building/environment safety Issues.
Room Scheduling/set-up/usage: Maintain congregation calendar, help coordinate set up requirements of events, oversee risk management and troubleshoot conflicts.
Tenant/Community coordination and support: Oversee shared calendar, coordinate building and program schedules, determine risks, troubleshoot conflicts.
Supply Management: Responsibility for office, custodial, kitchen, grounds and room supplies.
Renters/Vendors/Service Providers Management: Ensure that the needs of all parties are met. Work with Event coordinator to promote seamless event production.
Clergy, Board of Trustee, Team Leaders and Volunteer Support: Provide operational support when needed.
• Excellent time management, problem solving and organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal with vendors and maintenance workers and work with BIJ Operations Team Lead.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Highly motivated self-starter with ability to prioritize, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines
• Works well both independently and within a team setting
• Knowledge and understanding of Judaism and Jewish communal life preferred • Experience with non-profit organizations highly desired
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience desirable
