The After School Enrichment Specialist will facilitate interactive, after school and enrichment programs for PreK 3 and PreK 4 children coming to the Bernard Weinger JCC from an off-site half-day preschool program. The program is designed to stimulate children's minds and bodies through a balanced schedule of physical activities, swimming, art projects, and games.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Be responsible for the safety and welfare of participating children, supervising all children by sight and sound; observe and monitor children during both indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Arrive on time each day prepared to interact and engage with children.
  • Read to children and facilitate quiet activities daily.
  • Assist children in the locker room to change in and out of swimsuits.
  • Support the planning and implementation of weekly projects (eg. STEM, art, etc).
  • Communicate regularly with parents through informal daily conversations at pick-up.
  • Create a welcoming, safe environment to support children’s learning and engagement.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution between children and support positive, values based interactions.
  • Assist in clean-up and organization of supplies and equipment.
  • Inform on-site supervisor of any injury, misbehavior or conflicts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Supervise children by sight and sound.
  • Stand for long periods of time and be able to run and actively engage physically with children.
  • Must be able to lift and move with children (up to 40lbs.)
  • React with physical and mental alertness in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate physical stamina and agility required to be mobile for long periods throughout the day.
  • Lift/move materials, equipment or bins up to 50 lbs.
  • Move from sitting (chair and floor) to standing position easily and quickly.
  • Use hands for grasping classroom equipment and play material.
  • Ability and willingness to be in the pool with children participating in swimming program.

Fridays, 12:15PM - 3:15PM

Education Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 18 years and high school diploma;

Previous Experience:

  • Previous experience with school-age children; demonstrated ability to be energetic and personable;

Other Requirements:

  • Exceptional listening skills with the ability to use appropriate and positive discipline;
  • Must be able to communicate with a varied audience including children, parents, staff and other JCC and school personnel;
  • Willingness and ability to participate in mandatory orientation and training sessions. 
  • Commitment to one school year highly preferred. 
  • Dependability, timeliness, flexibility and adaptability a must!
