Congregation Shir Shalom of Westchester and Fairfield Counties, located in Ridgefield, CT is seeking a full-time Director of Finance and Operations to ensure excellent operation of our back office and synagogue. The successful applicant for this full-time on-site position will possess both acute financial skills and experience with day-to-day operational needs. Quickbooks experience required.  Congregation Shir Shalom is affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism.

Responsibilities:

 Finance:

  • Fulfill all accounting needs and activities
  • Accounts payable: Receive, process, code, and record vendor invoices and payments; track staff debit card usage. Quickbooks experience a must.
  • Accounts receivable: Set up, update, monitor and apply payments to accounts in database (database training provided); issue invoices and statements; process credit card transactions; follow up and respond to financial inquiries.
  • Oversee bank accounts, make deposits, and enter journal entries.
  • Payroll: interface with payroll service provider, supply necessary payroll information (e.g., hours and pay rates), and ensure proper tax compliance.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Handle financial aspects of registrations for special events programs.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide regular written reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with Board CFO/Treasurer
  • Manage end of year donor reporting and automated annual Tax statements
  • Oversee procurement and encourage operational savings when possible.
  • Support the Board and officers on financial matters

Office Management and Operations:

  • Oversee all daily operations including: office, custodial work, building use and setups, special events and onsite needs (in conjunction with directors and other support staff).
  • Liaison between administrative staff and Executive Committee/Board of Trustees
  • Human Resources: On board new employees ensuring compliance with labor and tax code.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Facility with Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Quickbooks and ability to learn additional systems (i.e., ShulCloud)
  • Highly organized with keen attention to details
  • Analytical ability to ensure accuracy of financial information. 
  • Ability to effectively present financial data and information to senior leadership.
  • Experience in budget management.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in finance, accounting, or business administration.
  • Bachelor's degree

Schedule: Our needs vary by season and there is some flexibility; Some Jewish Holidays and the occasional weekend can be expected. This is a 40 hours a week in person position.

Salary65,000.00 - 90,000.00 Annual
