Description

Part-Time Youth Director

Temple Tikvah in New Hyde Park, NY is a vibrant reform congregation of 200 families with a thriving Religious School of approximately 40 students. We are currently looking for a part-time Youth Director for the 2024-2025 school year to coordinate youth programming within the synagogue and manage programming for our junior and senior youth groups.

We are looking for a candidate with excellent communication and organizational skills, who is creative and flexible and, most importantly, has the ability to relate to students and serve as a Jewish role model and leader. We are seeking a mensch—one who is inspired by Jewish tradition and who desires to pass that same love and enthusiasm on to the youth of our community.  Although most of the planning can be done remotely, this job requires attention to planning events and regular communication with students and parents via email, texting, or phone calls – whatever medium works best.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and running:
    • After-school events for Religious School students (bi-monthly)
    • Teen events in coordination with teens and families (bi-monthly)
    • Religious School family events (bi-monthly)
  • Planning and participating in special programming during Religious School a few times during the year (school meets every Sunday from 9:30 – 12:00)
  • Publicizing all events and maintaining regular communication with students and families
  • Coordinating activities with synagogue leadership (rabbi, office administrators, Religious School committee chairs, school director, and Temple president)
  • Maintaining connections to NFTY and other local temples to coordinate joint activities, as necessary
  • Recruiting and developing tweens and teens as young participants and leaders in our community
  • Writing a monthly column for the Temple newsletter

This is an hourly position. Salary range is commensurate with Jewish education and experience. College education and 1-2 years of experience working at a camp and/or with youth groups preferred.

If interested, please submit a cover letter and resume to [email protected].
