Position Overview:

Minnesota Hillel has become one of the most well-known Hillels in the Big 10, making Minnesota a destination for Jewish college students! Minnesota Hillel is looking to hire an executive director passionate about Hillel's vision, which is to inspire every student to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life, learning, and Israel. Our ideal candidate should demonstrate exceptional strategic and management skills, a successful track record in fundraising, and a commitment to community building. As the Executive Director, you will have the exciting opportunity to inspire a professional team and cultivate an inviting space that encourages students to explore, experience, and build vibrant Jewish lives during their collegiate journey. What you’ll do:

Strategy & Vision:

  • Inspire and organize pluralistic, diverse Jewish life on campus, expanding the reach to include students with various Jewish backgrounds and interests.
  • Lead strategic planning efforts with the Board, managing financial responsibilities within the approved budget.
  • Cultivate relationships with campus departments, religious organizations, and the local community.
  • Foster connections between Minnesota Hillel and the International Hillel movement and other national initiatives and programs.

Fundraising & Financial Management:

  • Review monthly and annual financial reports and maintain a deep understanding of the organization's cash flow and financial health.
  • Work closely with the Development Associate and Major Gifts Office, leading the development team and developing strategies for annual fundraising.
  • As needed, maintain relationships with major donors, community partners, and granting organizations.

Leadership & Development:

  • Inspire, develop, and mentor a professional team that fosters pluralism, inclusivity, and student leadership development.
  • Ensure staff possesses a strong foundation in Jewish education and rituals.
  • Cultivate a positive work environment, delegate effectively, and support staff in personal and professional development.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Board and committee members.

Stakeholder & External Relations:

  • Unify and build community while creating a culturally rich Jewish environment for students.
  • Understand Minnesota Hillel's unique culture, identify partnership opportunities, and engage with Board members and prospective leaders.
  • Collaborate with campus organizations to enhance student engagement across diverse programs and platforms.

Student Engagement:

  • Establish a warm, welcoming community that promotes student leadership and personal growth.
  • Ensure strong relationships with other religious organizations on campus.
  • Provide individualized mentorship for students on their Jewish journey.
  • Ensure Hillel is a safe space for students, addressing antisemitism and anti-Israel activities on campus.
  • Encourage an inclusive culture embracing all expressions of Jewish religious practice.

 

What you’ll bring:

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role in a Jewish or secular nonprofit, higher education, or related organization.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven success in strategic planning, team management, financial resource development, stakeholder relations, and inspiring pluralistic Jewish life.
  • Exemplary executive leadership with strong visionary and strategic skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, willingness to take risks, and learn from experiences.
  • Ability to create a space for diverse perspectives and ensure all student voices are heard.
  • Creative problem-solving and inspiring presence.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and comfort working with diverse populations.
  • Proactive communication and collaboration across offices and agencies.
  • Expertise in leading conversations about Judaism and Israel in an approachable way.

What you’ll receive:

  • Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace with a range of $105,000 - $135,000; DOE.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, 403(b) retirement plan, LTD, Vacation/Sick paid time off and paid parental leave.

  • 100% paid travel regionally and abroad, particularly to Israel.
