The Jewish Community Action Network seeks a Director of Civic and Community Engagement to promote education and activism in support of the community’s pro-Israel and Jewish priorities in Orange County, CA.

The Director of Civic and Community Engagement will develop and lead the planning and coordination of campaigns and grassroots capabilities to promote and support the priorities of the Orange County Jewish community. The Director will work closely with elected officials, community stakeholders and partners across the County, mobilizing and empowering the community through training, communications support and other subject matter expertise as needed. Supported by community support staff and experts as needed, the Director will provide leadership and guidance to local teams of volunteers, ensuring robust collaboration and alignment.

 Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Build relationships with key elected officials and other community stakeholders in Orange County with a focus on city councils, school boards and select County and State offices.
  • Develop and lead efforts to educate elected officials and others on Jewish life, US-Israel relations, and antisemitism, encouraging their support in their respective roles and responsibilities.
  • Conduct ongoing analyses of regional and local candidates, political trends and internal assessments of campaigns to inform and educate the broader Jewish community.
  • Support grassroots community building, including volunteer recruitment and training, development of communications and mobilization vehicles, etc.
  • Develop and facilitate the dissemination of educational materials and resources to empower and enable members of the community to take action and engage in own local circles.
  • Support mobilization of activists in support of select campaigns, including calls to action, letter writing and/or petitions.
  • Liaise with external subject matter experts including media, legal and political consultants and leverage as needed.
  • Work closely with key faith, professional and lay leaders in the local, regional and national Jewish community to ensure seamless coordination of efforts and knowledge of all available resources.
  • Establish and track program goals and key measures of success in alignment with the strategic objectives of the organization’s Executive Board.
  • Other activities as required.

 Qualifications & Skills:

  • Commitment to the Jewish and pro-Israel community, including a thorough understanding of issues related to Jewish life, Israel, antisemitism and anti-Zionism.
  • Experience planning and managing advocacy campaigns, including strategy development, organizing, setting policy, and working with senior level political and business leaders.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a focus on communicating effectively across different groups of stakeholders and to different targeted audiences.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively and develop succinct, compelling calls to action.
  • Leadership experience including leading a team of peers and support staff.
  • Ability to build collective vision, trust, and mutual accountability with team members.
  • Experience working closely with volunteers and developing volunteer leaders.
  • Superior organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Familiarity with the diverse communities in Orange County is a plus.
